IF YOU ENTER THE CONTEST, I NEED YOUR PHYSICAL MAIL ADDRESS
ON THE ENTRY FORM, AS WELL AS EMAIL

DO NOT PUT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IN THE PUBLIC COMMENT FORUM--THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION. USE THE PRIVATE FORM THAT SAYS "CONTEST ENTRY FORM"
I HAVE DELETED YOUR ADDRESSES FROM THE COMMENTS SECTION AND YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER USING THE FORM.

Now that I have that bit of business taken care of because every single time I hold a contest, a number of you always write your email address in the area for the mailing address, or better yet, leave off the zip code, or send me the wrong address, or you put it in the comments section, which is flat-out dangerous. I will delete those without entering you into the contest. I'm squeezed for time as it is, but things like that make me crazy, especially when I am sending out print books as prizes...now, enough lecturing from the old broad.

Yes, that's me in a hardhat on top of a beautiful 36 story condominium with our son who is building this absolutely gorgeous luxury condominium on Oahu. (I'm the short one in the picture, obviously...and now you know why I refer to myself as the family dwarf even though I'm 5'6" -- even the grandkids are all going to be taller than me!)

Anyway, the spouse and I have just returned from two weeks in Hawaii with our son while his wife and the kids were away for ten days. I went over there to be the mom and cook, and Doug, my husband, went to take pictures--and because I didn't want to go without him.

'll be sharing some of his pictures here, but this day climbing to the top of a VERY TALL BUILDING was an amazing experience. We took the elevator most of the way up, walked a DOWN all 36 floors. The view from the top was amazing, but looking down was a rush, too. We were 400 feet up in this shot at the top of the page.

Here's a picture Doug took of Jon's building at sunrise one morning--I keep remembering our son building things with his Erector Set when he was a kid, but never imagined this! It's an absolutely beautiful structure and should have its first residents moving in next month. For parents, this was probably the coolest "show and tell" ever!

It was a busy two weeks, cooking for the men (I felt so frickin' TRADITIONAL!) and taking care of one bunny, two cats and two dogs. And yes, it did get a bit insane
Picture
at times, especially since one of the dogs is a rather large six month old puppy, a perfect blend of...well...lots of things! I wish I'd taken a picture of her hiding under the kitchen table after eating the really yummy breakfast burrito I'd just made for my husband! (this picture lacks the look of guilt, but it'll have to do...) I put his plate on the table and left the room (he was RIGHT THERE!) and Doug walked to the kitchen counter, about three steps away, for a plate of fruit, and Bear (the poor puppy...she was starving, right? No. BIG no!) jumped up and ate his breakfast before he could save it. I will say that she has that "Who? ME? I'm INNOCENT" look perfected. I absolutely love Bear, but she's a reminder that I probably DON'T want to raise a puppy again!

However, I did get back on track with DARK TERROR while we were three. I love the characters and the story, but I've also rewritten parts of it numerous times as new things come to me. I used to channel my books in great lumps of information, but this one is getting doled out in bits and pieces. It is, however, more than halfway finished in spite of all my mishaps! It was wonderful sitting at the kitchen table in Hawaii with the windows all around looking out on jungle. Just a beautiful setting!

If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen the new cover for HUNGER, the third and final anthology with my last Feral Passions story, DANGEROUS PASSIONS. It's the last one in the three book series, with Trak and Evan's stories, and it will release first as an ebook in CLAIMED BY THE MATE VOL 3 in January, and then in the print anthology HUNGER, in May 2017.

I'm going to miss my guys from Feral Passions, but one of these days I might actually return to their world. It's hard to say, because I've got so many projects on my "to do" list, and I really want to start finishing things for a change.

I've started getting rights back on some of my Kensington titles, and want to release them asap...after I finish the current book!

Before I forget--I've often said what a fan I am of Joey W. Hill's writing. I fell in love with her Vampire Queen series, and I'm so glad she's writing independently them now that Berkley is no longer buying, but this new one coming out from her on October 31--yes, that's Halloween--sounds wonderful! It's a stand alone, and because Joey is as much a romantic as I am, she makes Medusa her heroine and I'll bet good money she gives her a happy ending. I've never read anything by Joey that I didn't love, so I can recommend this one without even reading it yet. I do, however, have it preordered!

Click on the cover and it will take you to Joey's page with info about the story, buy links, and a link to a first chapter excerpt. I can guarantee a good read. I'm really looking forward to this one myself!

Last month I mentioned discovering Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott, and their wonderful series of M/M romances called UNBREAKABLE BONDS. I couldn't believe my luck when TORCH, the newest in the series, released in time for me to read it on our redeye flight home from Oahu! I intend to read it again because it's just that good. Every single book in the series is so well done that I've got to add more shelves for my "keeper" collection! They're also available in print, and that's my next purchase because these are stories I'm going to want to read again and again because they're just that good. All of them are--look for SHIVER, LUCAS, and SHATTER, and when you finish them, read TORCH.

My contest this month is for a copy of WILD, the monster anthology with three complete novels by myself, Eve Langlais, and AC Arthur. Just fill out the entry form--correctly!--and I will choose winners on Halloween night. As always, I sort of judge how many to give away by how many entires I receive, and I always try and have a separate one for those of you not in the US. At some point I may have to switch to ebooks for those of you living elsewhere, because postage is getting so blasted high, but for now I'm hoping to keep sending those print books. So if you want a refresher on the story in WILD (Wild Passions) just click on the title and read an excerpt. And I'm going to leave you with one of Doug's shots--it's an 800 year old Hawaiian fish pond called Paepae o'He'eia, an absolutely gorgeous place filled with history.

I hope you're well, that the weather has settled down wherever you live, and that you're actually finding time for some reading. SO many good books out there, and I want to read them all!

Best to you,
Kate

Oh my God Kate the pictures your husband took is BEAUTIFUL I love them all and the color I can't believe how they stand out just beautiful.

Kate Douglas link
10/28/2016 07:59:30 pm

Thanks, Faith. Those are all high dynamic range, meaning each picture is a combination of a series of photos taken at different light settings, and then the photos are combined using a program that pulls the different settings together. They're the same kinds that you see in magazine adds that are too perfect to be real--that's because, while they ARE real, the light has been manipulated to pull in the very best combinations.

Looks like you had a great time in Hawaii. I wish I was there.

We did, Cheryl! In fact Doug and I went out to lunch one day with Jan Takane--she told us about a wonderful Japanese restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...and ate like pigs! I had hoped to get together with her more, but the days flew by and I spent a lot of time either cooking or writing. But, since those are both favorite things, it was okay by me! It rained a lot, but it was just beautiful, and Doug got tons of great photos.

Thanks, Patsy. It wasn't a planned trip--got a text from our daughter-in-law asking if we could come "babysit" her husband while she and the kids were away. Worked out great, and it was so much fun to see our son. (My baby will be forty in a couple of months! ACK!)

Hey Kate!! I didn't know Joey was putting one out on Halloween! Gotta check that out!@ when's your next one due?

Kate Douglas
10/29/2016 09:53:25 am

Yes! I didn't know she had one coming up either, so I'm thrilled to promo for her. Pass the word, okay? And as far as the next book, it's taking me forever, but there have been a lot of changes in the story as I've gotten into it deeper, and I want it to be good. It's been almost three years since my last one! I need to get my butt glued to the chair and the laptop, but page proofs just showed up for Dangerous Passions and they have to get done asap. There's always something. Stick with the newsletter, and you'll know when it's finished and in for edits.

Kate, I agree - everyone is waiting for that next book, so we'll provide the superglue if you need it (grin). Or we'll just send a hot hero over to massage your feet and shoulders and give you inspiration.

Nikki, thanks so much for your interest in my new one! Hope you have a great Halloween. :>

The pictures were absouletley gorgeous and I'll look fondly at them, seeing as how I'm petrified to go to Hawaii...LOL happy you guys are gone safe, and that you all had a good time. I'm not entering this contest, I've got the book hehehehe...you know what I'm waiting for..😍😘😋📙

Kate Douglas
10/29/2016 09:55:01 am

LOL...I know, and I'm working on it, and will get back to it as soon as I finish the page proofs for Dangerous Passions! Why petrified to go to Hawaii? The flight isn't that bad at all and the islands are gorgeous. ❤️

Oh I'm afraid of volcanoes. And going to stay on top of an active volcano...that's like me going to Yellowstone....never going to happen. I learned to much in school about the ring of fire to play with volcanoes lol

Kate Douglas
11/1/2016 10:05:37 am

Well, Angel...you'll definitely "get" my storyline in Dark Terror, then...a demon has planted a nuclear bomb deep in the Yellowstone caldera in the hopes of causing the Apocalypse--theory being that the ensuing explosion would transfer enough energy to impact the Ring of Fire. This story is taking me forever to write because of all the research involved...I mean, even fantasy has to have enough truth to make it believable, right? My Chanku don't believe in making up reality, since they obviously exist...

Therapy? Me? Nah...I like it in here!

Kate, thank you for the book from last month's contest. It came when I needed a lift me up. We are moving from PA to Texas and I was feeling overwhelmed. We've lived in this 100 year old house for 38 years and we have to down size as we bought a one story home. The things we kept over the years blows my mind, for example a broken table in the attic covered with an old sheet and its been there for so long I don't remember it.

Can't wait for the new releases. I have everything you've written in print or e-book and the print bonds are already boxed and at our new home. It was hard going through my library but I knew you were one author I was keeping.

I loved the pictures and am so glad you were able to stand on the top of the building. What a great experience. Especially since I would never be able to do it. Joke at my house is if it's more than one step off the ground mom starts shaking. If you can't tell I'm afraid of heights. But I love roller coasters I just have to sit in the middle so I see people and not ground. In 1981 on a trip to NYC to visit my aunt she and my husband took our then 8 month old son out on the observation deck of the World Trade Center while I stayed in the middle of the room inside looking everywhere but out the floor to ceiling windows.

Happy writing.

Kate Douglas
10/29/2016 10:04:38 am

LOL...you and my husband could stand together. He really hates heights, but I'm fascinated by the look way down to the ground! You'll notice that the photograph was taken from a safe distance. I think he was actually INSIDE the penthouse suite!

I'm laughing at your broken table story--we've moved a lot over the years, and each time we uncover forgotten treasures. You know...the kind that are even beyond donating? I'm hoping this house is our last. I'm so tired of moving, and the next time we downsize it'll have to be a coffin to get much smaller! We moved from almost 3000 sf in the mountains to a little over 1200 sf in town. Much easier to clean and the yard is small, but I have to admit I miss my stairs (exercise!) and really miss the forest outside.

So glad you got all my books packed--book lovers have the right priorities. My books were in labeled boxes before anything else got packed the last time we moved.

OMG Kate, I literally freeze when facing heights. The view looks awesome . I love Joey's books also. Thansks for the heads up on this one. Your husband takes some fantastic shots. The pics are really pretty.

Hi Carol! Good to hear from you, and your comment makes me laugh because I've spent the past hour in my husband's shop with him trying out a new lighting system for portraits with me as the test subject. Unfortunately, the man LOVES the look of wrinkles. I told him he's not gonna have much luck getting the women I know in front of his camera! He is a good photographer, though, but he doesn't do heights at all. Which is why all the pictures of me leaning over the edge are taken from a distance...

STARS KATE! I'M DIZZY JUST LOOKING AT THAT PICTURE!! IT IS A FANTABOLOUS AWSOME BUILDING AND YOU SHOULD BE PROUD~~

Kate Douglas
10/29/2016 10:24:41 pm

LOL! I didn't build it--the boy is in charge, so yeah, I'm really proud of him. Actually proud of both our kids--they're both a lot smarter than their parents! It was so cool being up on the top and walking around with a view of Diamond Head and the coast. It's such a gorgeous place.

I'm a romance author--I really love those happy endings, though I don't mind putting my characters through pure, unadulterated hell before they get there...

Contests are back! I'm not totally settled, but really miss giving things away, so ready or not, I'm going to start slow. International entries are welcome, though I will have to limit International winners to ebooks. Postage costs are just too high. Your addresses will not be shared or sold--I respect your privacy. I will only collect addresses if I am giving away print books. I won't be doing that as much because I've got very few print books left in my stash, but I do have other things!
