January 2016 Newsletter

Finally! Barely making it in under the wire on this newsletter, but the last couple of months have been chaotic, to say the least. December 1 saw the re-release of Hot Alphas as a mass market title and the release of Intimate, the first in my Intimate Relations series. I think I told you in my last newsletter that around the middle of December I ended up in the ER with a stomach ulcer (connection to all the books, maybe?) Actually, no--it was the result of my eating ibuprofen like candy for the arthritis in my hands and spine. It finally caught up to me in a very big way. Excellent diet, though not much fun...I'm really skinny right now!

Had a wonderful Christmas with all the family. I love it when we can all get together. Our daughter's girlfriend took over most of the cooking--I did the roast but Amanda got everything else together except the mashed potatoes, which 14 year old Luca handled like a pro. The kid loves mashed potatoes and gravy, and I think he's finally discovered that the best way to make sure there are enough is to make them himself. (He did give me orders to double up on the gravy...)

This is the whole crew--I'm the shrimp in the middle, our son is on the far left, daughter is on the right with the red scarf, and Luca, the maker of mashed potatoes is on her right. Amanda the cook is between me and Sarah, and Doug, the very patient spouse, is holding me in place. It's so much fun to get all six grandkids actually looking at the camera without making faces...

I'm not really all that small, and neither is my husband who's around 6'4", but every time we get together, I'm reminded that we raised a tall family. (uhm, the three kids in the back are standing on a rock wall...I need to try that!)

Right after Christmas, on December 29, Redemption released, so it was back into promotion and reading the reviews, which, I have to admit with great glee, have mostly been really good for both Intimate and Redemption. I've got snips on my website on each book's page in case you're interested. Also have first chapter excerpts.

We got through New Year's, and Doug and I took off for an overnight escape in the motorhome. We spent the night at Wright's Beach, between Bodega Bay and Jenner. It's one of the few campgrounds where you can park a motorhome right on the beach. It poured rain and the waves were huge, and it was wonderful! I had barely started Jayne Ann Krentz's SECRET SISTERS, so I took it with me and absolutely lost myself in the book while my spouse went out with his camera (and him) wrapped in a big, black garbage bag to take pictures of the weather and waves.

Perfect mini vacation break for both of us!

I highly recommend SECRET SISTERS--I honestly think it's one of JAK's best in romantic suspense, and that's saying a lot because I love her RS! Wonderful characters, terrific setting, and a truly beautiful romance. (I do love a good romance...) It made for the perfect beach read--even though I couldn't go out on the beach. Even better, there was no wifi or cell service, so all I could do was read...

I still don't have my author copies of GROWL which has my ebook story, Feral Passions, in this really gorgeous print version that also includes AC Arthur's story from Claimed by the Mate, and a really great new one from Eve Langlais. Once I get my copies, I'll be able to hold a couple of contests for them, so please be patient. In the meantime, I've got a few copies of Hot Alphas to give away, so please don't forget to fill out your entry in the form marked CONTEST ENTRY. Do NOT enter your personal information in the comments section. Not only is that dangerous for you to have that info out on the 'net, it's not going to get you entered, so pay attention. On a computer, the entry form should be at the lower right, on some mobile devices it's at the end of the post, PAST the comments section. Make sure you enter in the correct spot.

A couple of notices for those of you living within driving distance of Sonoma County--on February 12--

That's the first event--I will be giving a free copy of HOT ALPHAS to any person who buys both INTIMATE and REDEMPTION--at least until I run out! The second event requires that you actually sign up and pay $10, but it's worth every penny and then some. Author Sharon Hamilton is organizing what sounds like a really fun time to be held at Coppola's Winery in Alexander Valley, just north of Healdsburg, on February 20. ROMANCING THE VINES is the very first of what we're hoping will become an annual author/reader/wine and chocolate get together in wine country.

Sharon has set up a Facebook page where you can sign up and find out all about the event and which authors will be attending. Please check it out, and if you think you can make it, let me know! February in wine country is usually just gorgeous--the wild mustard is blooming, and the color is absolutely phenomenal. Coppola Winery is spectacular, and they're going all out to make this a truly special event for us. I've roped my husband in as our photographer (I'm not quite sure he realizes what he's getting into yet...) and I'd love the chance to meet any of you who can make it. The link above is live, and so is this:

Anyway, that's about it for now. If I get copies of GROWL before the week is out, I'll give winners a chance to switch to that as their prize, but honestly, I'm not holding my breath. There was some sort of mix up with the order and it may be a while before my copies show up. In the meantime, I'm writing the third story in my Feral Passions series and just finished copy edits for AWAKENED, which means I've got an excerpt posted if you want to take a look, follow the link on the title. This one is Marc and Mandy's story, and I can guarantee you a really wild ride that's unlike either of the first two books. Marc has some terrible secrets in his past, serious enough that he doesn't know if he can trust himself to be alone with Mandy. Not good when he's already fallen in love with her.

I don't have any books other than JAK's Secret Sisters to recommend because I'm deep into reading entries for a contest and have eight full-length novels to finish ASAP. So far, they're really good, and a reminder that there are some truly talented romance authors in this biz!

I hope the weather isn't getting you down--I refuse to complain about rain after four years of drought, though it was truly wonderful to see the sun today. Doug set up my mountain bike on a stationary wheel in my office so I can get my exercise even when it's yucky outside. I've never used one before, and it's actually pretty cool. Amazing how fast you can work up a sweat on one of those things!

Stay well, stay safe, and don't forget to take time for you. It's way too easy to worry about everyone else and forget that you're just as important as the rest of the folks and/or critters you take care of. Biggest bit of advice? Find time to read a good book. It makes the real world (and politics! I'm already tired of politics, and we've got a LONG way to go...) go away.

My very best to all of you,

Kate

December 2015 contest winners!

Sorry to run so late, but I was still getting entries through today, and finally shut it down. Thanks to all who entered, and thanks to random.org which makes it such a simple procedure to pick my winners. There are four this month (well, last month, actually!) and they will each receive a signed copy of Hot Alphas with the prequel to my Intimate Relations series. INTIMATE and REDEMPTION, the first two books, are already out. AWAKENED comes out July 28.

Winners are Joanne from Omaha, NE, Paula from Marietta, GA, Kris from Coochin, Queensland Australia, and Jana from Los Angeles, CA, who will all receive a copy of Hot Alphas. One thing I always forget to ask is that you take a minute after reading the book to leave a review, whether it’s Goodreads, or Amazon.com or any other online site. (I think our publishers want us to justify the author copies we get!) I do hope you enjoy the story, but even if you don't, your thoughts are always welcome.

On another note, if any of you are at all close to Sonoma County or up for a drive to the wine country, I’m going to be doing an author event at Coppola Winery with a group of other authors. It’s scheduled for February 20 and the event page is up on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/romancingthevinesevent/ If you think you can make it, please sign up! From what I’m hearing, it’s going to be a terrific event—lots of wine and chocolate!

I’ll have more information as the time grows closer.

Congratulations, winners, and thank you to all of you for entering. I love seeing where people live, and believe me, you are all over the map!

Almost forgot—I finally had time to read Jayne Ann Krentz’s SECRET SISTERS—it’s absolutely wonderful, and I highly recommend it. And for those of you who usually read ebooks, if you love the feel of a quality book, this is one to buy in print. It’s beautifully produced. I’m jealous! Also enjoyed holding and fondling the thing while reading such a terrific story.

Those of you in the areas with all the flooding, please stay safe. Sending good thoughts your way, and watching the Russian River rise at the same time!

Take care, be well, and remember to take time to read a good book!

I'm a romance author--I really love those happy endings, though I don't mind putting my characters through pure, unadulterated hell before they get there...

       Newsletter Contest:
Contests are back! I'm not totally settled, but really miss giving things away, so ready or not, I'm going to start slow. International entries are welcome, though I will have to limit International winners to ebooks. Postage costs are just too high. Your addresses will not be shared or sold--I respect your privacy. I will only collect addresses if I am giving away print books. I won't be doing that as much because I've got very few print books left in my stash, but I do have other things!
