November 2015 Newsletter

11/22/2015

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US! I'm going to get this newsletter up tonight if it kills me--I have been trying to get to it for a week. Finished edits on WILD PASSIONS for the Feral Passions series and thought I'd have the time, but then my editor sent me the edits for AWAKENED the same day we had a "cover reveal" at Heroes and Heartbreakers so I spent the next few days working my way through her suggestions, which were excellent. You are going to LOVE this story!

But, edits are done and I'm going to give away two copies of ARC's (advance reader copies) of GROWL, the print anthology coming out January 5. This print book, and it's HUGE because it has three complete novels in it, has the two stories from the Claimed by the Mate duet, mine and AC Arthur's, as well as an entirely new book by Eve Langlais. The thing is, I will be running the contest through the Thanksgiving holiday and then I'll be in Honolulu, HI for a book signing December 1 for INTIMATE, so the contest will run until December 2, which gives you plenty of time to enter. Love the cover for this one! I mean, really...is that gorgeous or what?

Other than that, not too much exciting in my life. I blew out my Achilles tendon in my left ankle so running has been out since August, which is really depressing because the weather has been gorgeous and it hurts to walk, much less run. I've been to physical therapy and got a ton of exercises from a guy who must have trained under the Marquis de Sade. They are not fun.

And he was such a NICE man. Until he started rolling my leg on a big piece of foam that might look soft but isn't.

I'm getting really antsy, waiting for the release of INTIMATE on December 1. If you're going to be on Oahu for vacation or whatever (HI, Cheryl--Cheryl is one of my readers who's told me she'll be at the
Picture
signing--I think that is just so cool.) And Jay Takane, one of my beta readers will be there or I'll have to hunt her down. There's nothing I love more than doing an author event where I actually KNOW people who show up. That is absolutely the coolest thing ever.

That picture at the top is the new promo card I had printed up. Thanks to the fabulous Renee George, who not only writes wonderful stories (Peculiar Mysteries--You've Got Tail my current fave...) but is also is a fantastic artist, my cards turned out perfectly. If you want one, signed, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope (business size envelope--they're about 8" long) to me at

and I'll pop one in the mail to you.

To enter this month's contest, fill out the entry form at the right (or bottom if you're on your mobile device) but NOT in the comment form. It has to say CONTEST ENTRY for it to be a contest entry. Complete mailing address--please don't abbreviate anything but the two letter official abbreviation for your state because the post office does not play well with the short version of anything.

If you're in a country other than the US, same thing--spell it out, as much in English as you can. You wouldn't believe the trouble I run into trying to make your addresses understood by the USPS online...

I need to finish a few updates--will send this out Sunday evening so I can read through for typos when I'm not falling asleep! And as far as reading goes, I just finished Karen Chance's latest Cassie Palmer novel, REAP THE WIND. If you've been reading this series, get it, but don't try and start mid-series or you'll be totally lost. It's good, but so much action you need to watch our for whiplash! Next book sitting here teasing me? Joey W. Hill's latest in the VAMPIRE QUEEN series, NIGHT'S TEMPLAR. It's a big, beautiful book and I can't wait to start it!

I'm also looking forward to Jayne Ann Krentz's next book, SECRET SISTERS. The link is to Jayne's website with her buy links all handy. Another one I can't wait for is Stella Cameron's newest, sharing my December 1 release date, OUT COMES THE EVIL, another Alex Duggan's mystery. I loved her first one, released first as COLD, and then as FOLLY when a new publisher picked up the series.

Take care, all. I need sleep. Have about eight or nine months to catch up on! Be safe, and don't forget, in the hectic days around the holidays, to save some quite time to read a good book. Hopefully it will be a copy of INTIMATE. And remember that REDEMPTION
releases December 29, so those Christmas gift cards should come in handy!

Thank you. It's really had me depressed. It took me eight months to get to where I could run half a mile w/o stopping to walk, and that was running and walking every other day for a total of about 2-3 miles. Then in August it suddenly started to hurt in the middle of a run, and hasn't gotten any better. I feel like such a slug!!!

LOL...Physical therapists aren't supposed to be nice! It's going to take a while for this to heal up. It's been bad since August, but deadlines kept me so busy I couldn't take time to see the doctor. That just let it get worse.

Sorry to hear about your Achilles heel problem. & I know all about the torture they call "physical therapy". Lol been there - done that.
Take care Kate.

Thanks, Robin. Yeah. The guy kept saying "no pain, no gain" until I wanted to slap him upside the head! <snort> And he was so cute, too...just wrong, ya know?

You have my sympathies about your injury as well as the therapy. Both can be stressful, but attitude helps. And going to Hawaii sounds delightful.

Kate Douglas
11/22/2015 09:27:16 pm

LOL...so does a stiff drink. Just poured one. It does tend to improve my attitude...

Haven't been to Hawaii for five years, I think. The kids come over here but we just haven't gotten over there. Can't wait to see the grandkids on their own turf!

Feel better soon , and thanks for all the great reads.

Kate Douglas
11/22/2015 09:28:41 pm

Thank you, Kim. It's the weirdest thing, but I still get all goony when I think of people reading my books. You'd thank that at this point in my career I would be at least a little bit jaded, right? Hasn't happened. I love hearing from someone who's enjoying my stories, so thank you much.

I won't start that until we are through the signing and quick over and back trip--then I'll start making baklava and brownies and packing up baskets. It's a nutty time of year for me. I'll cook full time and gain about five pounds...

I know the pain well. Here's hoping it heals quicker so you can finish the dreaded therapy. Have a good trip and a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you JoAnna! I'm a basket case, if you want the truth! Wasn't this nervous with my very first NY release, Wolf Tales, but probably because it was due to release in January but hit the shelves in November! It actually sold out before the release date, or shortly thereafter...LOVE a release like that!

I hope your ankle gets better soon. Thats a serious boo boo it has to hurt like hell. I hope everything else is going good for you and that you have a blast at your book signing. What a great place to get to go, im jealous, lol. Happy Thanksgiving!

Kate Douglas

Works for me, Melissa, though doubt I'll be doing any hiking. Rode my bike a bit yesterday and didn't seem to aggravate it, so that might be the way I'll have to exercise until it's healthy again. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving!

Hey darlin'! Thank you. Having a great time with the grandkids. Hope you had a terrific holiday.

Uff, I know. In a year I had 4 sprained ankles (well, two in each), at the end I had to have them in casts for 4 weeks, plus 8 weeks of PT with someone that had to be the twin brother of yours, but now I can walk like a lady.

Kate Douglas
11/28/2015 09:13:54 pm

Hmmmm. Interesting. I've never been able to walk like a lady. Wonder if PT and casts would help? Nope...not this girl, but it's a great visual!

And I probably shouldn't, but how did you sprain your ankles four times in a year?

Merche
11/29/2015 07:02:40 am

Well, let's say that Asturias (Spain) have nothing to envy to the lovely weather in Ireland and Scotland (I lived there for almost 5 years), even the beauty of our countryside (just check it). The thing is that I was going to a party in a pair of very beautiful shoes but very inappropiate for a rainy night. I slipped and I ended at ER. They just bandaged my ankles and told me to rest them for a week, some pills for the pain and little more, the usual things. I did it all, but at the begining of that Summer I had more o less the same problem and back to ER. The same old. And in September I have the same problem just walking and when they brought me to ER, I asked them to stop wasting my time and to put my ankles in plaster cast. They told me that will make me to be resting for 4 weeks and after that I have to have PT. I said go ahead and that was the best thing. No more sprained ankles and welcome back my high heels.
Sorry about boring you to dead with my story, and more sorry about all my gramatical and spelling mistakes.
Wish you well and ¡Feliz Navidad!

Kate Douglas
12/5/2015 09:33:20 pm

Good lord, and you still want to wear the heels? LOL...I think I'd go back to something flat really fast. I haven't worn heels in years. The best I can do to dress up is sandals with about a 1" platform heel...old broad shoes!

I'm a romance author--I really love those happy endings, though I don't mind putting my characters through pure, unadulterated hell before they get there...

Contests are back! I'm not totally settled, but really miss giving things away, so ready or not, I'm going to start slow. International entries are welcome, though I will have to limit International winners to ebooks. Postage costs are just too high. Your addresses will not be shared or sold--I respect your privacy. I will only collect addresses if I am giving away print books. I won't be doing that as much because I've got very few print books left in my stash, but I do have other things!
