We got up early Friday morning and headed for the top of Lolo Pass where we knew there was a visitor center and
museum. It was a really neat spot, but what was absolutely fantastic is that, while I was in the center looking at
books, my husband was outside looking around--and he glanced up and saw a timber wolf staring right back at him!
By the time he got his camera, the wolf had faded out of sight into the deep forest, but it was definitely a special
moment. The docent at the center said there are two packs in the area, and she'd heard wolves howling a few nights
before. I wish I'd gotten to see this one! We continued on north into Montana and camped at Holland Lake, another
gorgeous spot.
This is the Lolo Pass visitors' center where my husband saw the timber wolf. It was walking down
a service road next to the parking lot.

Our campsite on Holland Lake--beautiful spot.

It was so quiet here--and beginning to feel like Fall.

The water was absolutely crystal clear.
