We drove into the small town of Stanley, Idaho this afternoon, and I don't think I've ever seen anything as beautiful as the
Sawtooth Mountains looming over the valley. It was absolutely breathtaking--we found a campsite just out of town on Lake
Stanley that was one of the prettiest places we've ever stayed. Took about a four mile hike through meadows and pines--the
only downside was the number of dead and dying trees from a horrible infestation of beetles--that, combined with a fire a
few years ago has really thinned the forest.
We got cell service in Stanley and were able to talk to our son--baby Owen is doing great, and the photos we downloaded
are proof that he looks exactly like our son did when he was born--except Jon was a month early--he weighed 7 1/2 pounds
and was 20 inches long. His son, Owen, at full term, is 9 lbs, 21 inches long...he's a moose!
This photo is really small, but it was the best we
could get of a gorgeous red fox in our campground
this morning. He slipped into the trees before we
could get a better photo of him, but what a beautiful
creature.
After we packed up this morning, we wandered through the old mining ghost town of Custer.
The gold dredge pulled out 3 million dollars worth of gold.

We hiked along a neat trail near Stanley Lake.

Campsites don't get much prettier!

This little guy was a busy visitor to our camp. The view was so pretty, I'm surprised Doug could concentrate on his paper!
