We were up early this morning and hiked to the waterfall at the eastern end of Holland Lake. It was a beautiful morning and
the trail to the falls was a little over a mile and a half. By the time we got there, the sun was over the mountain tops and
turning the mountains west of us pink--we saw two bald eagles, both perching in trees at the point where the stream from the
waterfall empties into the lake. One had the white head of a mature adult while the other eagle was all dark--an immature
bird without the adult coloring.
On the trail to the falls.
Morning sunlight on the mountains
Definitely worth the hike!
Proof that Rufus and I made it up there, too!
Definitely an eagle, but a long way off!
We left Holland Lake and headed for Glacier--and saw more forest fires along the way. There was one burning on the
mountains above Holland Lake, and more on the mountains near Swan Lake. The air quality is horrible and the
beautiful mountains barely visible. It's such a disappointment after coming so far to see this country. When we finally
arrived at Glacier National Park, we learned that the main road through the park was closed for repairs, as well as
almost all the campgrounds! We ended up tonight at a lovely KOA just outside the park--there's a lot to be said for
occasionally staying in a place with clean showers, a nice laundry and Internet! I've been off line for almost a week
and it's a great chance to catch up on email and get my pictures posted. (Unfortunately, it was a poor connection, and
while I could check email, I was unable to load the website.)

Another fire burning above Swan Lake.

We finally arrived...and it's all shut down for repairs!

The crystal clear water reminds me of streams we saw in northern Italy on our trip over ten years ago.

We took the road for the sixteen miles it was open...not nearly enough! Guess we'll have to come back one day...
