PASIC-NY 07
April 2, 2007--home and catching up!
I'm just going to add a few extra pictures that I managed to get at meetings and such--I wish I'd taken more at Kensington to show off the absolutely gorgeous art that covers the walls. I honestly could have spent the day just admiring the paintings and mask collection and other art pieces that I had only a moment to look at. I also wish I'd gotten pictures of the luncheon with my editor, agent, and others from Kensington and Barnes and Noble at Periyali, a most wonderful Greek restaurant. Unfortunately, I was spending so much time with my mouth hanging open in total disbelief that I was finally here, in New York, doing things I only dreamed of, meeting PASIC people I've known on-line and discovering they were even more fun in real life, and meeting people at my publisher's who have done so much for my career. One thing I can definitely say after listening to Shelley Kay, president of Web Crafters (and Patricia Kay's absolutely amazing daughter!) is that my website will soon be undergoing a MASSIVE change! I'm sorry I don't have more photos, but to be honest, I was just having too darned much fun to pull out the camera!
Patti Berg giving opening comments. (If you haven't met Patti in person, she's WONDERFUL!)
Sue Grimshaw, head romance buyer from Borders Group Inc. This woman is amazing! She tells it exactly like it is and offers great tips to authors on making YOUR book stand out in the stores.
Allison Brennan moderating the panel on "Green Lights and Red Flags! (an author's career from an editor's perspective) Lucia Macro, Harper Collins/Avon; Wendy McCurdy, Berkley; Lauren McKenna, Pocket; Leah Hultenschmidt, Dorchester.

I thought the agents panel was really interesting. Of course, my agent, Jessica Faust, was on the panel and I'm one of her biggest cheerleaders.-->
Stephanie Kip Rosten, Levine-Greenburg Literary Agency; Jessica Faust, BookEnds; Jennifer Jackson, Donald Maass Agency; Emily Sylvan Kim, Prospect Agency, and in lower picture on far right, Caren Johnson, Caren Johnson Agency.
It is a testament to JoAnn Ross's popularity that she had a full room at 8:15 in the morning on Saturday. She gave a terrific talk, "Find Your Bliss While Stumbling Down Publishing's Yellow Brick Road" that was funny and poignant and wonderful...and, thanks to her "Rice a Roni" clock, perfectly timed!
If you ever have the chance, (but it's got to be in person) I would advise you to ask Christie Craig about the cowboy, the Festiva, and the mattress. But make sure you don't have to piddle, because I swear this woman could leave you sitting in a puddle...
...and if you team her up with Faye Hughes, you're really gonna be in trouble. I put in two shots of Faye because she was in motion the whole time she talked and it was WONDERFUL!
I'm convinced both Faye and Christie were famous stand-up comediennes in their former lives...because they still are in this one!

March  29, 2007 7:45 A.M.: I'm going to have to write really fast because I have to be at the first conference stuff in about half an hour and I'm still sitting here in my jammies. Can I say that yesterday was totally amazing? I went to Kensington and got to meet so many terrific people who help put my books together or help get them out there, had a wonderful time at the PASIC reception, which was absolutely amazing--you wouldn't believe all the people in that room with names I've only read about! When I have more time I'll try and remember some of them...and after the reception my editor Audrey LaFehr took my agent, Jessica Faust and me to Grand Central Station where we had the most wonderful dinner!
AND, after dininer I got my very first subway ride back to the hotel, which included a walk through Times Square after dark. Okay...I'm still TOTALLY stoked but I'm going to be late for the conference and need to get going if I'm going to get the photos loaded.

Susan Lyons is the one waving--we had a great crowd
Just another shot of folks at the reception, and one of Susan Lyons with her new cover. I was able to snag one when I was at Kensington earlier in the day.
Sylvia Day and Susan Lyons. (Sylvia's my roommate here in NY...she's in getting her hair curled for the day. I'm not even going to try!!!
Me and Sylvia...I like the fact it's fuzzy. My wrinkles don't show!

March 28, 2007: It's gorgeous here in NY after a really awful trip from California yesterday. My plane was delayed over an hour before take off in Sacramento, then we circled O'Hare for an hour, but at least my connecting flight had been delayed as well so I was able to go from one plane to the other w/o any wait time. Got to LaGuardia about an hour late but Sylvia Day and Tracy Blaine were also delayed and wouldn't be in for another couple hours. I caught a shuttle to the hotel and folded! Sylvia finally arrived and we had a really nice dinner in the hotel restaurant, but it's VERY pricey so doubt I'll go back there! (Over $50 apiece and we only ordered a drink and something off the appetizer menu for dinner--I'm hopelessly small town!) Today I took a walk down the Avenue of the Americas just as far as 38th street. It's windy and crystal clear outside--and New York smells wonderful! There is someone selling something to eat about every 50 feet!

This is the clock that ticks off the national debt. Not a fun thing to watch...
This is a shot of Bryant Park. I sat in the sun and watched workers on a crane about three miles up! Damn...these buildings are HIGH!!!
This really surprised me. On many of the older buildings there are old wooden water tanks on top. Made me wonder if they're still part of the water supply!
This crane was huge! What's wild is that there is a covered sidewalk (covered with plywood) that you walk under...like that's going to protect you from something dropped from up there!!
It's almost time to go register for the conference but I think I'm going to grab a quick nap, first. My regular email isn't working, so email me at katedouglas13@gmail.com if you need to get in touch with me.
