More about Kate...
If you're at all interested in my long, sad (not really--I had a blast!) story about my even longer road to publication, it's all spelled out in a blog I did for my agent, Jessica Faust. You can read it here: BookEnds Blog
And, since you've come this far....
...the least I can do is tell you a little bit about myself. I am a writer. I think I've always been a writer. It's woven into my fabric in some inescapable manner so that it defines everything I think or do. I'm also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a fairly decent photographer and a pretty good cook...over the course of my sixty-plus years I've been a student, a florist, a bookkeeper, a newspaper reporter, a cartoonist, a hostess in a winery tasting room (now THAT'S the place to find stories!) and a teacher~~but first and foremost, I am a writer...though I must admit, Gramma--or Dabba, as I'm called--is a close second! I've updated the family photo--our tribe is increasing!
And, we've moved yet again. I loved living in the mountain community of Cobb, but we were just too far from the grandkids, so we've bought a home in the wine country town of Healdsburg, in Sonoma County, California. Our daughter and her family live nearby, we can walk along the Russian River and ride our bikes into town for dinner, which is really fun. I'm looking forward to getting settled so I can get back to my writing. My husband is enjoying retirement -- in fact, he's taken to his unemployed state with great glee...and I'm loving the fact he's doing some of the housework for a change!
Our son and daughter are grown and on their own--thanks to our daughter and son-in-law we're grandparents to three absolutely perfect grandchildren--two boys and a girl. Our son is married to the lovely young woman he's got his arms wrapped around on the cover of Cowboy in My Pocket--we're glad he was smart enough not to let go of her! They also have three children--two daughters and a son--who are just as perfect as the others, so our family continues to grow in the most wonderful way. I've posted a family photo below.
Other than our little " tree incident" as I'm calling it, life would be pretty carefree for us, but Doug and I once made the foolish mistake of saying, out loud, how much we enjoyed our freedom. That's about the time Rufus tumbled into our lives, a furry little castaway who, in a very short time, has achieved complete dominion over our household.
He's a fairly benign despot, but Doug and I have acknowledged we no longer live in a democracy. Rufus is about fifteen now, and entirely deaf. As Doug says, he hopes when he's old and has "doggy alzheimer's," he hopes he gets cared for as well as Rufus!
I don't do the cycling photography I used to and the webpage of cycling photos is currently inactive. My link with the cycling community is through the website I maintain for our son's friend, Ross Dillon, who is recovering from a very serious brain injury. He was hit by a car while riding his bike and remained in a coma for many weeks. He still has a long way to go, but his courage and the courage and dedication of his family and friends are a constant inspiration to all of us.
My writing consumes me, which is a good thing because I absolutely love what I do. With almost thirty books and novellas released through Kensington’s new Aphrodisia line as well as their Zebra imprint, two more manuscripts completed and scheduled for release in 2013 and more in the works, I’m spending most of my time at the computer.
My latest release, Dream Unchained, completes the Dream Catchers series for Kensington’s Aphrodisia imprint. The first story in the series, Dream Catcher, appeared in the NightShift anthology. It was followed by Dream Bound, and then the exciting conclusion in a race against time in Dream Unchained.
I’m back in the world of my Chanku shapeshifters with my newest series, Spirit Wild. Originally slated as a Kensington imprint, Spirit Wild will now release through Aphrodisia, which means they’ll be every bit as hot as my original Wolf Tales. Lily’s book, Dark Wolf, which is slated for release in May 2013, is an exciting glimpse of the Chanku in a world that knows they exist. The next book, Dark Moon, is Igmutaka and Star’s story.
And, for those of you who enjoyed my Wolf Tales but were never able to get the Chanku novellas in the Sexy Beast anthologies, Kensington is releasing all of the novellas as “single title ebooks,” beginning in January 2013. They are up for preorder now at $2.99 each at most online distributors. Look for Chanku Rising, Chanku Dawn (formerly Camille’s Dawn) and Chanku Fallen beginning in January.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Please write to me...I'd love to hear from you, or better yet, subscribe to my monthly newsletter. I run a contest each month for my readers and always have something neat to give away, either a book, an ARC (advance readers copy) or something else that's either fun or edible. (click here to subscribe!) You can always find me at Facebook, and occasionally on Twitter @wolftales. I'm not there often because I just don't have enough free time to get hooked! Life is definitely never dull, and it's always full.
